Another move was just made in the food delivery sector. Dutch scale-up Thuisbezorgd.nl, (parent company Takeaway.com), announced the selling of its British activities to competitor Just Eat.

Thuisbezorgd.nl says the acquisition was necessary because its own UK-activities weren’t profitable enough. The market is known for its competitive nature, including companies like Just Eat. Financial details weren’t disclosed.

The news follows shortly after Takeaway.com acquired the Just Eat-sections of The Netherlands and Belgium for 22.5 million euro.

Just Eat claims to be the leading online and mobile takeaway ordering service. Started in a Danish basement in 2001, the company is now listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is operating in twelve markets worldwide.

Takeaway.com is active in ten European countries and Vietnam. In Belgium it delivers fast food with the brand Pizza.be. The name Takeaway.com will disappear in the UK, just like the name of Just Eat will disappear in Holland and Belgium.

In 2014 Takeaway bought its German competitor Lieferando.de for 70 million euro. "There’s no greenfield left", founder Jitse Groen declared back then. "It's really is 'eat or be eaten' in the European takeaway market."
