Here’s your weekly update on Dutch startup news. Have a sunny day!

Funding

Dutch startups have raised 69 million euro in the first quarter of 2016. StartupJuncture noticed the funding activity is slightly higher compared to the previous quarter, when 59 million euro was raised in Q4 2015 – but is off to a slow start compared to the same period last year, when nearly 86 million euro was raised.

According to Belgian researcher Omar Mohout, Dutch startups only raised 45 million euro, as shown in his EU Venture Capital report. We don’t agree ;-).

Investment company 5square bought a minority stake in Amsterdam-based software company So WiFi. Financial details weren’t disclosed, but involve an investment of ‘several millions.’

Amsterdam-based adtech startup SocialAudience received an undisclosed amount from Dutch VC Axivate Capital.

Online sustainability platform Bleeve announced they received a 600.000 euro seed investment from the DOEN Foundation and others. The Amsterdam-based startup makes it easy for users to make their homes more sustainable.

The European Commission has named Amsterdam as European Innovation Capital of 2016, leaving Eindhoven, Paris and Turin among others behind. A cheque worth 950k is connected to the title.

Amsterdam fully deserves to be our European Capital of Innovation for its holistic vision of innovation in and for the city” Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said in a statement.  

More good news for Amsterdam, online ticket service Eventbrite from San Francisco opens its eleventh office in Amsterdam.  (Link in Dutch).

Fastned, building fast-charging (15-30 min) stations for electric cars along the highway powered by wind and sun, published it’s Q1 results. As compared to Q of 2015, the company says it saw its sales increase with 500 percent, and its revenue with 370 percent.

Alwin van der Velden launched his grocery service Superscanner, helping online shoppers to decide which supermarket is the cheapest. “Hungry customers can throw in their basket whatever they like, and when they’re done pay the lowest price”, wrote RTL (link in Dutch).

Amsterdam-based Pastbook, a photo book startup, announced the launch of apps for Facebook and Instagram. “one tap for a photo book with all your pictures from each social network in less than 60 seconds.”
